Root canal treatment is a dental procedure designed to save a tooth that has become infected or severely decayed. The root canal contains pulp tissue, blood vessels, and nerve tissue that can become inflamed due to deep decay, injury, or bacteria. When infection reaches the pulp, patients may experience pain, sensitivity, and swelling in the gums. Our mission is to provide gentle, expert care using the latest technology to help your tooth heal and protect your smile.
During this root canal procedure, the crown of the tooth is opened, allowing the doctor to access the root canal. The pulp tissue in the infected root canal is removed and the canals cleaned. X-rays aid in diagnosis and help our dentist visualize the complex anatomy of the root canal system. A series of files is used to remove any remaining tissue, slightly enlarge the canals, and smooth the walls of the canals. Local anesthesia is used throughout the process to ensure patient safety and comfort, protecting you from pain during treatment.
Once any infection has completely cleared up, which could take a few days or longer, the root canals are sealed with a material called gutta percha or with root canal sealer to prevent bacteria or debris from entering the root canals and causing further infection. Finally, the crown of the tooth is sealed with a filling or crown to cover and protect the tooth, restoring its appearance and function.
